Upgraded Tranny?
hey what are some ways that i can tell if my tranny has already been upgraded...when i bought the truck it had a airbag leveling kit, an aftercooler, somebody wired up a torque converter lockup controller, it had a chip in it, and it has a rebuilt engine in it....i think that if all this had to be done to it then the tranny should have been shot along time ago. I checked the oil on it and it doesn't even smell burnt and the temps rarely get above 160. It shifts nice so i don't know if it has been upgraded or not. Id like to know before i drop the money on a new one from BTS.

After some "Rompin and Rarin", the way it shifts and the temps will tell ya a little somethin. How does she shift under hard driving and acceleration? Quick and snappy or slippy/slidy? Does the temps go up drastically after just a few runs thru the gears under hard throttle?? Just some things to look at.

well it depends on the day. When shifting into third she kinda slips/hangs then slams into gear. the temps never go up and like i said even after about 10,000 on the tranny juice it doesn't smell burnt. I think it does this because it is trying to lock the torque converter and shift the gear at the same time. If i manually lock the torque converter then it shifts like a manual transmission...as quick as i can shift it. The first to second shift is beautiful and the third to OD is beautiful. Did i mention it has 123,000 miles on it.
