question with trailer brake control

I have a 97 f250 xl truck. It has a hitch and a 4 pin. What do I need to setup a 7 pin and trailer brake controller? Is there factory wiring I can plug into or will I need to run all of my own wires?

Any help is appreciated

behind the power distribution box under the hood there should be two relays, these are part of the trailer package. you can see them in teh botttom right conrer.

if you have them that's great if not, go find a truck as a JY that does, take them and the 7 pin trailer connector from the rear. plug the seven pin in the rear using the 4 pin (left, right, tail, ground) that your current lights are plugged into and the other unused three pin (positive, brakes, backup lights). you can kinda see them in the bottom left of this pic

i don't know where plug under the dash is but it is 5 pin and should be under the little cubbyhole somewhere, i believe it is gray

I found the plug under the dash in my 97 right in the middle of the Trans tunnel in the harness that runs under the dash. It was next to the connector for the AIC.

One thing I did notice though when I hooked mine up through the factory wiring. If I'm backing up with the hazards on it sets my trailer brakes.
