NC registration, 9000 pound tag including annual taxes was $93. Registration and taxes on my 2006 F-350 with an 11k tag was $123.

It used to be like that here. Anything over 10 years old was $35, then it went to $50, then $106, now $160

California here and I think the 97 was about $250 with the weight fee. Cheers!
