Just snapped 3/3 thermostat housing bolts.

Good thing I was planning to help a friend move stuff this afternoon. Guess I'll pay for his truck rental, 'cuz this won't be done any time soon.

Anyway, three of three thermostat bolts have snapped off. Was trying to put in the 203 thermostat.

The truck has 92k miles, and as far as I can tell, the original water pump. It looks like it's a giant pain in the *** to replace the water pump, and a bigger one to try and drill the stripped screws. Should I just bite the bullet, drain the system, and replace the water pump? Or any other suggestions?

Well, purchased a new water pump & serpentine belt & lower radiator hose. May as well replace almost everything while I'm up there with the coolant drained.

Somewhat annoyed that I can't fit the coolant filter, though. The Banks intercooler pipe goes where it should fit.

Are the bolts stripped, rounded or broken off? If broken off, is there anything sticking out above the top of the water pump when you remove the 'stat housing?

Broken off, and no - they've all sheered down into the bolt holes. It's got 100k miles, I may as well do the water pump... I actually had a free weekend. Not anymore, but at least I'll get something done.

Ok, I have a new water pump, thermostat, and other crap installed.

How warm does this 203 degree thermostat run? I was getting up almost into the "A" of "NORMAL" when on it hard merging onto the highway - it came right back down, but I hadn't seen the gauge move from N/O on the previous thermostat.
