Tachometer error......

Hey guys. My tach is reading around a 1000 rpms at idle. Digital tach says 689. I am assuming hnoes the factory tach gets input from the PCM? Just about everything on the engine has been replaced, including CPS and a new chip reflash to take advantage of upgrades. Do these tachs go bad? Thanks in advance.

Yes, tach input comes from the PCM. Tach head is diesel-specific (for the range and fuel admonition message), but it can be replaced separately from the rest of the cluster.
