Speed Sensor

Hey All,
I just wanted to share a finding. I broke my speed sensor a while back. It decided to fail on the start of a 700 mile trip, no cruise control, that would really stink.
I stopped at O reily's and picked one up. Thought great, I have a speedo. Worked great until I hit 55, then it started hopping around. So I drove 360 miles with no cruise.
While at my destination I bought another from Napa, hoping that it was a cheap Oreily's part. Did the same thing, so I drove another 360 home, with no cruise.
Long story short, I looked on the net and could not find a solution, just the problem. I am a controls technician, so I finally dug my head out and found the solution. You need a certain tolerance between the sensor tip and the gear, around 6 to 9 thousands. So I filed the base of the sensor, not the sensor itself, down until it started working. Took some time, but now I have a speedo and cruise control.
