Bronco powerstroke conversion
I've been thinking of putting my F250 PSD power train, axles and suspension into a Bronco. My question is, is the Bronco frame and chassis not heavy enough to handle the torque and weight of a Powerstroke? Do I need to use my F250 frame and shorten it? Or will the Bronco frame be just as strong? Oh, and has anyone else heard of anybody doing something like this? Thanks

It has been done using bronco frame and axles, eng, trans etc from a 1 ton. I just read the article in diesel power magazine; you can get the article off their website.

October issue of Diesel Power had an article were someone built 2 '93 Broncos.
One was built with 6.0L and other was a 7.3L He swapped out motor/trans from wrecked '02 & '06 Super Duty's and used the 1 ton axles and transfer cases. Wiring harness was robbed as well. Pretty good write ups. Great Lookin' Rigs Also!! |

I'd say any strengthening you may need depends on the year of your Bronco. I just sold my 88' Bronco with a 302ci on 35's less than a week ago and I think the frame in that thing would have been plenty strong enough for an OBS 7.3L. There again boxing and adding a crossmember or two to the frame rails wouldn't hurt to be on the safe side, especially if you plan on running it anywhere above stock.

A friend and I built his 2001 f350/1993bronco hybrid.
basically took a 2001 350 and cut 3 feet out of the frame and dropped the bronco body on it. Used the instrument cluster from the f350. |
