7.3 PSD swap out of van to truck
my Fire Department just got a E-350 van donated to us to use for drill. we will be cutting the van apart as if we were extricating a trapped person. so the guy drops the van off today and tell us we can have whatever we want off it. most people were looking in the back, i looked under the hood, sure enough it's the 7.3 PSD. i asked him about it he said he has to jump the van to start it, but the motor fires right up and runs well, so i told him i'll take the motor after we cut it apart so i dont have to unbolt teh whole van yada yada...anyways, i am wondering what the motor will swap into. i have been looking for a PSD for like a year now and just haven't found one...now i'm thinking i can basically build my own. i am figuring it will swap to a 94-97 OBS, but will it bolt into a 99 and up? also, obviously it's an auto and i know i want the stick, so am i going to have to get a new computer or something? any help is appreciated. still somewhat of a newb with the PSD. thanks

pretty sure the turbo is not mounted in the same spot on the van's. Might want to check into that.

Turbo is in the same spot, uses the same pedestal. I think one of the exhaust manifolds is different. It is non intercooled, and the van turbo has a 1.15 turbine housing and is non wastegated. The computer is detuned more than the trucks.
If you want to keep the van turbo, you will need the adapter from beans. Other than that, they are the same engines. Oh, pretty sure the motor mounts are different as well. |

thanks guys this is the info i'm looking for. i appreciate the help big time. i'll look into it. given the info you guys just provided looks like i would switch to the truck turbo or even an upgraded turbo, not a problem i know it needs an alternator so the work will be done before it goes into a truck.
now the motor mounts is more of a problem. are they off by a lot? anyone know where i can find out if they are different for sure? again i appreciate the help |

i love the oj special with a powerstroke motor. if you can up the power and have 10 pounds of stuff in a 1 pound bag that is sweet IMO. a guy on here was thinking of putting a 7.3 in his. you can think outside the box.
