The truck still starts and idles,it will even move about 50ft before the engine loses any power.....I thought if the IDM went bad, the truck wouldnt start????

Engine oil fills HPOP reservoir. I only ask because the small oil leak on my truck got a little bigger and in three days a gallon and a half was missing. I could go about 65 feet and air would get into the HPOP, and it would quit. It was just a small leak on the HPOP oring and a small seep out of the turbo pedestal that spilled the gallon and a half. I have a pressure gauge that I installed onto the oil line between the HPOP and head, reved the motor for 10 seconds and pressure bliped below 500psi and it quit. Fixed the oil leaks, added oil and has not had a problem. Weird.

You should also check the engine electrical harness for shorts, it may be seeing a condition that causes the PCM to "reboot".

I am assuming that the filters and fuel pressure is good also on your truck.

I'll check. I lose alittle oil between every oil change. Lost abut a teaspoon of oil out of the hpop, when I changed the eot sendor

a failing IDM will result in the symptoms you are seeing. mine went out a few months back. it is a Ford only item, the IH version will not work cuz of programming differences, also it is $1100 or so at the dealer. i suggest going to a wrecking yard and find a used one to test the one you have. the only advantage of buying a new one from Ford is that you get all of the updates for your year.

if you see a light at the end of the tunnel, it's probably just a photon torpedo
