HELP!!!!!Can anyone help read rear end tags???
to make a long story short, i have a 97 obs 5-speed... the tag on the rear end reads,
S 125 N 3.55 10 2 6 H16 and in the door jam reads axle- 39 i`m assuming that i have 3.55 gears... so i have this other truck, a 91 F-250 and i has a posi rear, i`ve been thinking about swaping them, so today crawled under to get the tag off the rear.. it reads.... 2 V107L 3L55 102 OK23 tag in the door jam reads, B9 i`m geussing that the 3L55 means 3.55 gears??? if they both have the same ratio i`m swap`n the rears sunday.... any help would be great! |

yes they are indeed 3.55 gears

Yes, the 3L55 means 3.55 Limited slip. If it doesn't have the "L" it is an open differential.

so there shouldnt be any problem swapping the complete rear end into my truck??? from what i found my rear end max cap is 6250lbs and the one out of the 91 f-250 is max cap is 5300lb should be ok, i`ll just keep mine as a spare if i rip the other one out...

If they are both 10.25 Sterling axles they are the same, the difference will be in the springs.

See if this helps out a bit...
I went through this when I was deciphering out a tag, on an axle that I had sold. Attached below is an explanation of the tag pictured... S125N S = Sterling Axle 125 = Model Numer N = Revision Number 355 102 7A21 3.55 = Gear ratio Open Differential (An "L" here would mean limited slip - the one below is not) 102 = Ring gear size (10.25") 7 = Year made (1997) A = Month made (January) 21 = Date made
