Oil Qty

Ok this is probably the "newby" question of the month but here goes. How much oil does my 7.3 take? I just purchased the truck. A '97 7.3 1 ton. The book with the owners manual states 14 qts. The folks at Napa state 10 qts. I will be changing the filter which holds 2 qts. I plan on watching the dip stick when adding oil but what is the correct qty?

I have searched the forum pretty well but cannot find it. Sorry if this is an obvious answer.

You need 3-1/2 gallons or 14 qrts.

I am sure I will have more questions. Sort of going thru the truck as I have time. Lots to learn.

I took the back seat out of my king cab and i have all kinds of room back there now. I still put people back there, just a little uncomfortable

does the 14qts include the 3qts that the hpop holds, supposedly there is no way to drain it except thru the plug at the top,thanks

I dunno bout that. If you change your oil regularly that's gonna stay fresh anyways.

I put 3 1/2gallons in mine every time I change the oil. That brings the level almost to the top of the full mark on the dip stick.
