Just picked up two used motors

Just got 2 used motors today. 7.3L PS 1996 model. One he said is dead, the other is supposed to be a good runner, I'm hoping. I was thinking of going through it, pull heads to start? Anything to look over go through, problem area's???

Oh, I found a spec that this engine weigh's 920lbs, I have a 1000lb engine stand. Is it going to be safe on there?

If you have an engine hoist you can lift it and then block it on the floor untill you get the head off or a few things of high weight

Ya thats what I was thinking. Its sitting on the floor right now. Was thinking of bolting a starter to it and doing a compression test. Can I do it cold? Or should these engines be done warm?

Doesn't matter. What matters is that all of the cylinders are consistent.
