Glow Plug Relay Problems

I just replaced the Glow Plug Relay on my 1996 F350 7.3 diesel. As soon as I crank the truck, the Alternator guage shows very low voltage. I wired the GPR properly. I even changed the wires around thinking maybe I wired it wrong, but it is still doing it. If I take one of the small wires off of the Relay, the Alternator reads the proper voltage. It is as if there is a short somewhere. Does anyone have any ideas about what may be going on? Is there any other part I need to check? Just for information: I changed the GPR because it was having trouble starting last year during the cold months. I didn't want to have the same trouble this year.

Are you saying the Volt meter in the truck is reading low voltage? If so that is normal for it to read low voltage until the glow plug relay shuts off and stops heating the glow plugs, it usually stays on about a minute or 2 then goes off and then you should see the gauge go back up to normal volts.

I've never seen the volt meter read that low. The meter reads from 8 to 18 with the word NORMAL in the middle. It is between the 8 and the N. I did not run it long when I saw this so I do not know if it will change after two minutes. It seems odd that It has never done this before.
