IDM Question

I picked up a donor 350 for a D60 swap. The guy was cleaning out so he gave me a IDM and a brand new set of Mile Marker hubs with the truck. He told me the IDM was good, but I would like know for sure.
Should I install it in my truck to test it? If so will I know right away or should I drive it for awhile? If something is wrong with it could it damage anything else in my truck?
Thanks
Travis

Your truck won't start or drive if it's bad

It won't hurt anything
