What's the legal tow capacity??

Okay so in Cali we have a new law that if your towing a trailer over 10000 gvwr then you need a class A DL. So I'm gonna get a class a but I'm not sure if I'll get ticketed for towing overweight with my truck?? It says the gvwr of my truck is 8800#s but that's not much at all! So my question is what can I legally tow with my truck?

I think the law say 15k not 10k. I too live in Cali and have plenty of friends that drive truck and I have not heard any noise about that law.

From what I understand on the CA DMV website it's 10k and people are starting to get hammered pretty bad on it right now.

You do not need a cdl period unless it's hauling commercially, you gvwr (max weight of truck alone is 8800, you gcvwr is 20,000, meaning your truck and trailer weight combined, I just moved out of cali

So it looks like you may be right, but you do not need a class A. What you do is just get an endorsement added to your class C.

Yea I'm not sure I've been reading that you need to get a non commercial class a but like I said I don't know. I'll go by the dmv next week and ask. But either way I want to get my class A license.
