Is My PCM Going Bad?
I was wondering what typically happens when a pcm goes bad. Do they just up and die, or do they start acting funny and make the truck run like crap before they go? My truck has always acted funny with a chip and seems to be getting worse. I have tried a couple of different chips now and each does the same thing so I know it is not the chip that is the problem. With a six position chip, I usually leave it on the second to highest setting. Frequently, when I start the truck, it starts on the first chip setting and cannot be changed. (moving the switch has no effect) I have to shut the truck down and restart it and hope it works right.(high idle is my first setting so it is really annoying) Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Is my pcm dead or is this something else? I have checked the connections where the chip mounts and the switch connections as well and all looks good. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
