Question is my trans on its last limb?

i bought my 97 f250 with 170K on the clock. i had all the fluids flushed and replaced, new water pump/t-stat/CPS...she runs great..i added gauges exhaust straight pipe and intake..i love the truck to death...the other day i went for my first long distance trip. it was 250 miles both ways and the engine ran normal temp and felt great..my trans flirted with 150-165 deg. is this too hot for the millage or is the trans starting to go on me? Im doing the same trip Saturday and am slightly nervous about the trans. and info is appreciated

220 and higher is the point where transmission fluid begins breaking down, I would not worry about 160, or even 180.

I just noticed that you just bought the truck. What mileage was on the clock when you got it? I am thinking that your trans probably has been rebuilt, but even if it has not, I think you would be seeing much higher temps if the clutches were slipping and sliding.

Thats normal. The temperature of the trans will depend on the temps outside

anything over 200 starts to make me nervous, but like I said 220 is the point at which the transmission fluid begins breaking down. Once that starts to happen, it is only a matter of time before the clutches (and bands if the trans has them) begin failing.

150F-180F is fairly stable operating temp. No worries at all
