How hot does your truck get

My truck runs on the A of normal, when Im towing about 10,000lbs and regular driving its between the R and M just wondering if this is normal. This seems kinda warm but its about 100 degress here in TX. I was thinking about putting a new thermostat in it, I think it has the original still in it with 223,000 miles on it.Does anybody know how hard it would be to replace it.

If I am running hard with a load, mine will reach the "N". I am not familiar with what the scale or the acceptable error is with those gauges though.
