Cold weather mystery sound

It's been mid to low 30's here in Chicago and my 97 is making a weird, not so much a whistle but like a air escaping gasping noise. Can't nail down a certain rpm or anything and I'm about to drive it home from work and I'm pretty sure it will not do it. Only in the 30's like I said. I have been warming it up for 5-10 minutes before I drive it. Any clues?

Could be your ebpv closing to help warm up? When it closes on my truck the exhaust sounds like a glorified hair dryer
