Built/rebuilt E4OD?

My tranny is getting up there in age and previous owner used it as a tow pig to go to horse shows(without gauges) so im sure she has had her fill of work over the years. Bonus time is coming up and im thinking maybe a tranny overhaul is in order. I dont have any slippage but it does make a rather loud grinding/whining sound at higher rpms so i just would like that piece of mind.

Im not looking to have a race machine or anything. Nothing more than intake, exhaust, and maybe a chip. I just want something that i know i can trust to not leave me stranded in B.F.E. because thats when everything dies of course.

What do you guys suggest for a DD? Looking to keep it ~$1000 all said and done and i dont have the resources to do the work myself unfortunately so that in mind what do you guys think. I know theres a million of these threads so ill be the million and one thread

If you're looking for reliability over speed, the best replacement is a ZF5....

Well obviously but finding a zf5 in these parts is damn near impossible. Plus thats alot of work as compared to dropping the tranny and installing rebuilt parts or replacements. I cant have a whole lot of down time as its my DD. Plus i already have a zf6 in my SD so id really like to have one vehicle where i can just get up and go without rowing gears because majority of my driving is city so that tends to suck after a day of running chores

This company built mine PR Transmissions Repair | Rebuilds | Heavy Duty | Racing - Trans is working perfect and couldn't be happier, plus it didn't cost $4k. Maybe there is a shop near you that can do the same type of build.
