New truck question

Hi all, Im going to pick up my new 98 f350 in two weeks and Im curious about the pre-99 diesel thing. This truck shows 11/98 on the vin sticker so what's the difference between a 98 7.3 and a 99 7.3? Im looking at some minor upgrades(intake/exhaust/chip) in the future. Will this hinder the performance if its an earlier 7.3? Thanks for your help on my first post!

It should be considered a 99 then. If i remember correctly anything built in August or later is the following year. I don't believe there are any differeneces in the 98 to 99. Biggest difference being a super duty and having a intercooler. It will respond well to an intake, exhaust and chip. if you get carried away with power be mindful the trans/clutch.

Yup! It's an early 99... Miss my old one. They are a half bread between the 97 and late 99-2000 trucks. Best reason to buy it is you are guaranteed to have forged rods... But the HPOP is smaller (15*) So early 99 don't respond as well to stage 1-2 injectors. There is a thread all about the difference between the two (early and late 99's). I'll try and dig it up for ya. Oh, and

You can swap all that stuff on an OBS too, but I wouldn't call it "easy"

On an sd it's a little different but I've heard if you swap the e99 PCM to a later model one the cruise control light actually works
