LOUD Turbo whistle

I was out driving around today and pulled up next to an F350 - no idea what year or engine - if I had to take a guess, I'd say it was an 05 or so. Under boost, his turbo was LOUD. This is the second one I've seen that is that loud. I know I have no other info to give for you guys, but is that usually from a much bigger turbo? The only time any of my turbo cars was that loud was with a dump tube off the wastegate. What gives? I want MY truck to sound like that. lol

I have an 01 with no cat and a 4" Magnaflow exhaust. It's a pretty big round muffler on there. Is it killing THAT much sound?

I get asked this all the time. The 2003 turbo is the loudest stock turbo on these motors, not sure why. I liked it so much I put 4" turbo back straight pipe.

My wife says she can hear me coming off the freeway a mile away. My buddy 2 miles away says he can hear when I kick it down going up the hill in town. I think he's jealous because he owns a duratrax

Straight pipe would do that? My truck isn't that loud now, the only reason I haven't gone that route is because I didn't want it to be TOO loud. But damn, I got into the turbo game a long time ago because I love the sound of a turbocharged engine (and the power of course) and I'd like my truck to sound like that too.

The 6.0 turbos are just louder than the 7.3s. The 03's and early 04's have the loudest turbos - then late 04's - then 05-07.

Is the '03 turbo a different turbo than the '01?

And I just realized... I posted in the older 7.3 threads... sorry... :/

It's been done. Very not worth it.
A 38R is just as loud, and actually an upgrade.
