RPM Control

Been meaning to find out what the small black box on the floor of my F350 is. I can say for sure its a digital tach, but it has 2 different buttons on it that say "RPM CONTROL" and "CHARGE PROTECT" along with a power button and some up and down arrows. I played around with it a bit, but nothing happended except @ one time the read out said 2100 in pressing some buttons. Engine rpm remained the same. Help?

1997 F350, 7.3 Crew cab, long box. All original....for now.

It's called an auxillary powertrain control module (APCM) or auxillary idle control (AIC).

Check out the link, it will tell you everything you need to know. If the "BRAKE" light in your dash doesn't come on with the e-brake set, do what I did and just run the wire that goes to the e-brake sensor to a switch.
