355 or 410's? That is the question

I assume I have 355 gears (tag on rear is 55 1025K06) I am currently running about 2000 rpm @ 70.

I finally found a good deal of a Dana 60 ($500)

The only problem is that the 60 has 410's. Which would you switch out?

I am not currently running a lift but plan on doing a shackle reverse.

What would you do????

i would say you have 3.73's. they are prolly a better gear for not to big tires. You would prolly get a litte more efficiency with 3.55's though

You have 3.55's. Personally, I would stick with them unless you tow a lot. With a shackle reversal, you should be able to run a taller tire, but not anything that would require a gear change. I have 3.55's and tow a good bit. They work great and I get good cruising rpms. If you're like me, you are probably starting off in 2nd gear already, so lower gearing would not really help anything.

Either way, you have to swap on set of gears, so I would rebuild the 60 since it is already out. BTW, heck of a deal on the 60!

that's my concern...I want to avoid having to stroke through one more gear if I can

not really sure I guess...to be honest I haven't looked into all this stuff that much (wasn't going to swap the axle but the axle kinda found me). From the little bit I know, I'll get about 4" of lift from the shackle reverse.

Suggestions are welcome...I am the type that always wants to do it right the first time ya know

I had 4.10 in my old truck, really liked them for towing. My PSD had 3.55's and I hate them for towing. For me I'd go with the 4.10's

I got about 2.5" with my reversal. I could run a larger tire, but with a dually i don't have any options without spacers. I have to use 1st gear when towing heavy loads, but when pulling my 4000 lb. boat, I can still start out in second. I don't know if that helps, but I know many other members will chime in.

I would stick with the 3.55's for a daily driver, but I know many people that love 4.10's also. Heck, I used to have a '88 F-250 w/ a built 351 turning 44's with 4.10's. It would turn 'em over no problem, so i don't think you can go wrong with either choice.

Yea thats my truck. Thanks by the way. I am running a Sky Manufacturing 3" shackle reversal. Their links is Sky Shackle Reversal. The 35's rub the corner of the bumper ever now and then on a tight turn into a dip or driveway approach. The back end has a 2" add-a-leaf from Tough Country.

95' F-350 PSD, CC, 4x4, LB, srw, auto w/4:10s, Stage 1 injectors (RDS), 17* HPOP (mod by Joey at TE), Wildman Chip, EBPV gone, Down Pipe, Stainless Monster Exhaust, AFE intake, Techni-Cooler, 120V IDM, Sky 3" RSK, 2" add-a-leaf on rear, Bilsteins, Onboard Air, Front and Rear Bags, Weld Cheyenne 8's, BFG Mud35/12.50 on 18's
