Brought the 97 Home, doing the general upgrades. Have ?

Hey guys-

We brought the 97 home over a month ago, she was a real straight truck, unmoddified except a "Superchips" hand held programmer. (I know I know its coming out LOL)

We have done the 4" Turbo Back Diamond Eye, putting on the DIY 6637 Tomorrow, all fluids, filters, etc. Just getting a real good baseline. Guy said the HPOP is 3 months old. Heck she doesnt even leak anything.

Question is, he put a new NAPA starter on it as he thought it was going out. Well now about every 3rd or 4th time we go to start it the starter doesnt engage and it just makes a funny noise like its missing the teeth on the starter or flywheel.

Suppose we need a new flywheel? If so should we upgrade to anything over OEM? It is an automatic BTW.

ALso, I want to put in a 6 position chip, what should be the max tune I put on the chip with the stock injectors? 80 HP or so?

Oem is fine, as far as a ts chip get custom tunes, like tony wildman or php

Thanks Kris, Yeah I was going to get a TW 6 pos. through one of the vendors.

I just didn't want to put down like 140HP on position 6 if I would run out of injectors before then. We do not plan on putting in new injectors until we need it.

Would this truck have a 2 piece flywheel like I have been reading some have?

The dual mass is in the standard trans afaik, not the auto, and contact Cary at ct performance or Raul at stealth for tony tunes, and php for their tunes,

I just replaced my flywheel last week apparently its very common due to all the cold starts and all that pressure that's on the flywheel from it. I paid 140 for my flywheel from ford and u have any questions I will be glad to help just make sure u put aside a bit of time to do the job and all I did was slide the t case and trans back not drop them down. Also I would make sure u have some u joint sockets to undo the top two trans mounting bolts.
