Engine oil dipstick tube has smoke/exhaust coming from it

Hello all:
Being relatively new to owning a diesel I have a few questions! My 96 F350 cc 4wd 7.3 PSD Centaurus 2 has about 112000 miles on a new engine. The previous owner had the engine swapped (not sure why). Whenever I stop for fuel and check my oil level, I can see the dipstick has dislodged a bit in the tube and there is smoke/exhaust coming from the tube. The truck doesn't have any major oil leaks and the engine seems to run strong and sound good. It doesn't use a bunch of oil either. I have Shell T6 synthetic in it right now. Any ideas?

Ugh, Smoke/haze from the dipstick tube is normal. Since the dipstick is slightly blown out of the tube can mean mostly two different things. Best case scenario is that your CCV is plugged and you need to clean it out. Worst case is that you have excessive piston blowby and at least one of the slugs is not holding pressure on the power stroke. The CCV fix is easy, the blowby is not. I wish you luck on it being the CCV.

Thanks for the compliment! It was basically love at first sight! I've always wanted an obs and had a 94 f250 gasser but I wanted to switch it up to diesel and 4 x 4. I wish I would have washed it before I snapped the picture but hey, she's a farm rig ! I will check my ccv when I get home. I'm not really into performance mods, I just want longevity and dependability.
