I'm in the middle of doing a coolant flush, and in typical fashion...nothing is going right.
The first issue was when one of the thermostat bolts broke off...tried drilling it out for a screw extractor...but doesn't look good, so I'm probably looking at a water pump replacement.
My question is, will it do any damage to run straight water as a coolant, for the 10 miles I have to drive this to the shop? I realize that a water pump replacement isn't a big deal and is doable by most weekend mechanics, but with the way this started, I'd just as soon let the professionals finish it off properly.
My mech is about 10 miles away across town...I ended up drilling out the hole and secure the housing with a nut and bolt and filled the cooling system with distilled water, so that I can drive it to the shop.
