ScanGauge II won't work for '96 which one to buy??

I'm really disappointed that the ScanGauge II that I bought doesn't work for my '96. It won't read codes. The computer seems to have a bunch of stored codes in it, but the codes it displays don't correspond to any Ford codes.

So, this leads to the obvious question; what scanner do i buy to read codes??!!!

After I just dropped $160, not returnable to the seller, I don't have a spare $300 to spend. Any cheaper options?

I see different edge evolution models. Some are programmers, some are just gauges. What does "locked" mean?

The edge evo (handheld silver box) is a tuner/code reader, locked means it was put on a truck and not used again to take the tune off the truck, so it can only be used for checking codes, it's moniters a few PCM read perameters tho, but I would not recommend it for tuning anything but a stick shift

I use an Innova 3100e

They usually run $169 or so. It will pull current codes as well as stored codes on my 94'.
