96 automatic tranny ?
from what ive heard and read these trannys are not the greatest in the world.....i just purchased my 96 f250 sd........it has 26k on it........what can i do to ensure that this tranny will last........ive read you can have something done to it but they didnt say what? is it an accumulator shift pak? or will something else need to be done to keep this truck alive. ive getting my tranny temp guage installed in the next week or two.

Well...my 1996 has 117k on the tranny and runs fine. What are you going to be using your truck for? If you're doing heavy towing or hot rodding it, you're gonna have to consider beefing it up. If it's just going to be for light towing and general driving, you should be ok as is. Maybe a shift kit and a programmer to increase tranny pressure wouldn't be a bad idea. Also, take it in and have the fluid changed, including the torque converter. Notice the condition of the fluid. If it smells funny/burnt, you're in for repairs, otherwise you should be fine.
