Mileage and/or Longevity Mods

I am new to this and have done some searches to the threads here but not found one for this so far, that is why I started one. I had my Truck now for a little less than 1 year and it is all stock. While I am impressed with all the power you can get out of the trusty 7.3, I want mine to last. It has 190k now and that is not bad, I know. I don't think previous owners did anything to the engine as exhaust and intake are stock and that would probably be the first think you change if you want more power. I will be putting on a 3 inch downpipe to make it breathe a little easier. But my question is:

What Mods are easy and get me better mileage but don't kill engine life? Or what Mod may actually extend my engine life? I mostly drive empty (95%) but occasionally tow my 10000lbs boat. Right now I get about 14 to 15 MPG. My short range tranny and the 410 rear end don't help, at 65 down the highway I run at 2400 RPM.

Or have people with moderate Mods logged another 100000 miles on their PSD without any problem?

Let me know, also for other people trying to decide how heavily to modify their PSD.

An intercooler is good to extend the engine's lifespan, especially if you tow.
