Stock 7.3 Needs More Power - Need Ideas

My truck is a 1997 with the 7.3. As far as I know, it is stock except for the downpipe which is 3" round, and a K&N air filter. The exhaust is 3" from the turbo to the cat. From the cat back it is 3 1/2". The truck has only 85k miles on it. I finally got our trailer out for a trip recently. Total weight of the trailer is about 6300 pounds. I know that doesn't sound like that much, but I had to cruise 40 mph in 2nd gear over a couple of the passes in southern Oregon where I live. Plus a Dodge diesel pick-up easily blew by me out on the road when I was climbing a mild hill. He was towing a trailer that probably weighed more than mine. I didn't like that. I'm looking to boost my power a bit. I want to approach this in some kind of step-by-step sensible way and not totally mess up my gas mileage which was 14.7 on this last trip with the trailer. Any ideas about what I should/could do, and in what order? Any help/ideas would really be appreciated.
