oil pressure

just bought a 95 f350 today and love it, but when i got it home, the oil pressue guage quit working. it reads high when im driving and when i shut the truck off it stays high, but when i cycle the key it goes down to nothing, then back up to high. oil level is good, did notice an abnormally small oil filter on it, but im guessing its the guage since it doesnt make sense for there to be oil pressure with the engine off. any ideas??

The filter should be pretty darn big. A small filter does not sound right...

yeah i always had big filters for my other ones, but this is the right size and everything just not as long as the other ones. it has a new oil change i think im just gonna put the right filter on it and start from there but im pretty sure the guage just isnt working right

The Oil sending units on these trucks are not analog, they are simple switches that make at a set pressure. The gauge typically reads around middle high.

I'd ignore it completely. Only thing that gauge shows is if the engine has pressure. Which you can tell if it has pressure, by if the engine is running. A HEUI needs oil pressure to run. If you want to test pressure get an actual gauge for it, and either put it in place of the stock sensor, or on the oil cooler.
