Am I expecting too much from my 96?

96 F350 quad-cab dually. Stock except for a US gear 2 speed aux trans and maybe a US gear chip? Just got back from a 1000 mi round trip to NC towing my Land Rover on a 2 axle trailer (~8000 lbs gross). Got around 12 mpg @ 60mph. Mileage doesn't bother me as much as a seemingly lack of power. On 80 percent of normal highway driving, dropping it out of OD would get me up the hills at speed. Anything more, especially a few steeper grade hills would cause it to bog down horribly. Normal? I have a DP to install and am going to do the air filter mod this summer. Without modding the exhaust more than the DP, would a custom tunes chip by itself get me up the steeper hills any faster?

Yes it would, but I would recommend an intercooler as well to keep the egt's down, and gauges to monitor it all

Just finished a 6.0 trans cooler install. Intercooler was lower on the list. With guages to monitor things, was hoping to get away with a custom tunes chip to give it a little extra oomph.

That question makes no sence, I cannot in good faith say get custom tunes before gauges, I've had mine up to 1400+ with an ic and custom tunes, I do tow in extreme, but I WATCH my gauges

What question are you referring to? I stated that I would get the gauges and the chip at the same time.

You might have boost leaks, exhaust leaks pre turbo, low fuel pressure, worn injectors, low injector control pressure, and a number of things.
