Bad lope on startup

My dad just bought a 97 and it has a real bad lope on startup. I can bring the rpm's up to about 1k for a few seconds and then it idles fine. I unplugged the ipc sensor, checked valve cover gaskets, and has new filter. I don't know what else to do. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks man. And this one lopes hard every time I start it. I can drive to town and back and kill it, but I can start it back up immediately after and it still lopes until I bring the rpm's up. I don't know. Getting frustrated.

I just started working on that problem myself

Mine even shut off on me a couple days ago. Started it back up with some throttle and everything was fine.

Try starting in neutral. If it's OK in neutral then it's the gear selector switch on the trans.

My had a lope. And I replaced CPS and it lightened. My injectors are the cause of my lope.
