94 dit problem

i recently bought a 94 250, and the thing smokes raw diesel upon start up and while running. it also sounds like it is blowing back through the intake only on one cylinder. the guy i bought it from stopped driving it because of this problem. it sat up for a year, all i did was put two batteries in it and sprayed some ether in it and it started right up. it also has a bad knock but it dosen't sound like a rod. any help would be appreceiated.:dunno

Pull the oil cap and see if it is puffing smoke when running. Have an injector buzz and cylinder contribution test ran to start with. Also check the fuel pressure.
