New guy with a 97 F250 7.3

Hey all,
I just bought a 97 F250 7.3L 2wd 4 dr turbo diesel. I have a lot of questions because this is my first diesel of any kind.

I know I need to get it to a good wrench for an over all check, but here is what I see, and I am hoping you experts can give me a heads up on just what it is that I bought. I have read that the 7.3 is THE diesel engine. That is why I bought it as a starter diesel.

Now the truck as sits and what I see are these things:
Banks turbo charger with intercooler
3 window pillar gauges, trans and exhaust temps and a boost
some kind of decelerator control box under dash
a very large exhaust pipe from front to back
K&N air filter
body is in good condition, tires new, interior good, bed has a goose neck hitch,
over all good condition.

Drove it about 60 miles, stop and go and highway miles to get home. To me it runs great, had to watch out to keep it under 65, rolls straight and stops good. No leaks in driveway as of yet. Without telling what I paid for it yet, what do you folks think and what should I look at first?

Thanks ahead of time.

sounds like a good truck the only thing i would change is the air filter. k@n filters are known to dust the turbo. look into a 6637 air filter they are available online or at napa. got any pictures of the truck?

Working on the pics. Maybe by Monday. It's red and black with gray interior.

Sounds like a nice rig, what's your location? That also helps price, any rust, maybe $5k being 2wd and all, and yeah ditch the k&n, banks ic is a sweet thing to have

Does the mystery control box have a Ford logo on it? It might be an AIC - Auxiliary Idle Control.

No on the mystery box, it's black and yellow and has decelerator on it. Also this truck does not like 30 degree mornings. Guess til I get it to a shop for an overall look and tune up, I should let it warm up for a while. I work 12 hr shifts this week end so my replies will be odd times.

Only part of a tune up we can do is an air filter change, your cold start sounds like your gonna need glow plugs or a glow plug relay, or both, and what's a deceleartor?

I'll try to get a photo of that too, so I don't get price shocked, are glow plugs and relay expensive?
