need advice. 7.3 or 6.0
I'm buying a new work truck and I've found two possible trucks. First is a 2001 f550 with a 7.3 and 148,000 miles for $12,500. Also found a 2007 f550 with a 6.0 and 90,000 miles on it for $23,500. Both trucks are from a dealer and look clean and well maintained. I'm waiting for the service records for the 6.0 to see if any upgrades or replacements have be done. I am a mason so the truck will be worked hard, towing and carrying heavy loads. Looking for opinions on what truck is a better buy. Thanks

Bang for your buck if both bodies are in great shape and engines are well maintained I'd go 7.3 hands down if you don't want to dump money into bulletproofing the 6.0. If you don't mind spending a few G's before doing anything with it get the lower mileage 6.0, that way you know someone else has had the truck for less miles and anything wrong won't be too severe.

thanks for the advice. You think the 6.0 if the studs have been replaced?

If it has been studded and EGR deleted then yes, if it has an oasis report longer than your arm I would stay far away lol.
A truck with regular oil changes every 3-7k and fuel filters every 20 is very well maintained. Any idea if it was a work truck or personal truck in the past? I lost a ton of money on a 6.0 with 170,000 miles so it would take one that was meticulously maintained for me to buy another one. Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App |

Studs arent the issue. If its just a work truck.. Check if the turbo was cleaned, egr was replaced. Studs shouldnt be the deal breaker.

definitely a work truck. It has a rack body flat bed. My budget is max $25,000. Do you think I should look for a 6.4 and are they out there for $25,000? I need a dump and 4x4.

They're definitely out there but I bet it's higher mileage than you'll want. Same story as with the 6.0 though you'll need to tune it and do a dpf delete to get the longevity you want. I have a 6.7 and a tuner but I won't tune until my warranty is up, the cost of these repairs is way too much for me to lose my warranty while I have it. That's just my preference though you should test drive them and see how you like them both

Id shy away from the 6.4. I would however shop around. Find a nice 6.0 with under 100k miles for under 20 grand just the way you want it. Shop around. Theyre out there.
