horsepower ratings
just wondering what the stock horsepower and torque ratings are for a 97 stroke, also how much do you think a 4 inch straight pipe setup would benfit me, i bought one for mine with a 3-1/2 inch down pipe to a 4 inch with no muffler or a damn thing on it, its a 5 speed truck with 4.10s in it do you think i can muster 22mpg out of it like it is with the exhaust or do yall think i'll have to put a tuner in it? thanks for the help, and great site

HP ratings are on the vlave covers. Seems they kept creeping up at odd intervals...
I've been told about 20 - 25 hp increase with an open exhaust. 22 mpg? Maybe, but doubt it. You don't list what your truck is. Maybe if you had a 2wd reg. cab F-250 PSD. Which I have one, a '97, and best I have seen is about 20 - 21. I also have a much larger/heavier '97 F-350 cc sb 4x4 PSD w/ cap on the bed and I see 20 - 21 mpg highway frequently with that truck. I also have a '96 4x4 F-350 reg cab PSD best I have seen is 18 mpg... |

'97 had 225 at the flywheel, or well , that's what the sticker says. You will probably be around 175 hp at the wheels. With a tuner or chip you could see about 225 at the wheels. For more than that, you need to talk to Jim and get a set of larger injectors. I'm made 305/606 with his stage 1's on one dyno and 383hp on a mustang dyno.
