7.3L white smoke at start up

Hello

I came across a 00 Excursion with 200K miles from a dedicated diesel truck owner. He had it 9 months but wants to downsize.

On start up he says it produces white smoke for a few minutes and thinks it is either a O ring on a injector, glow plug or glow plug relay. What does white smoke at start up mean? He says it will do this when it isn't plugged up on a cold day otherwise there is no smoke.

That sounds like a normal cold block. Not that those other items can't be getting past their service life but white smoke on a cold Diesel engine is pertty normal.

Try glow plugs and relay, clearly the reason if it don't smoke when plugged in

Unburnt fuel is the cause of the white smoke. Likely due to glow plug issue. Definitely because engine is cold. Like others have said...it doesn't do it when plugged in or warm outside.
