Can't Switch to Manual Locking Hubs?
Happy New Years Guys!
I am having issues with my 4x4 automatic locking hubs and would like to replace them with Warn Manual hubs. I talked to the parts guy at my local ford dealership about this a few years ago when I wanted to replace them with manual hubs and he said that you cant? That the particular axle does not allow for a conversion to be done and that there were limited numbers of these axles produced by ford and that I would have to replace with another set of auto hubs? Can anyone confirm or deny this? Thank you! |

Yes you can switch to manual hubs, your ford guy is an idiot!!
To switch to manual hubs you will need..... Manual hubs AND Manual hub wheel bearing nuts The auto hubs used ONE 6 sided nut per side to tighten the wheel bearing. While the manual hubs use TWO nuts and a washer per side to tighten the wheel bearing. Warn sells a "conversion Kit". All it is, is 4 nuts and 2 washers. for about $80 Warn 32721 Auto Hub Conversion Kit Or you can just go to your local Junkyard and get them for about $25 Stage 8 also sells an "upgraded" nut kit. I have never had an issue with the nuts coming loose if torqued properly so that is just a waste to me Stage 8 X-Lock Locking Spindle Nuts - Dana 60 Axle Model - SummitRacing.com |

Thanks for the link. I saw what you mentioned about the reference to the 3bolt hub. Mile Marker also references a conversion kit from Auto, to Manual. Sounds good. Thanks guys, happy new year

This is the answer you get when you go to the dealer for aftermarket parts / procedures. We're running Warns with the kits Brad mentioned on both '95s. IIRC, the kits were quite a bit less than that, closer to $50.
