LEFT REAR VALVE COVER BOLT
Any clues on getting the back valve cover bolt back in? Seems like the factory bolted a ground strap in the way for one thing and then the sharp edges on the heater box? are in the way of getting a socket on it and of course the auto trans dip stick is in the way also. I/ve been at it a couple of hours and finally pulled the cover and gasket back off for a better viiew and noticed the bolt has to go in perfectly straight on it won't start.

I start them by hand with just finger tips. The ones by the heater box you can reach thru the fender well have to do it by touch of course.

Pull the inner fender, and do it under the truck with your head towards the bed and feet towards the grill.
At least on mine I wasn't able to get a socket in there due to firewall clearance, so I just did 1/4 turn at a time with a el cheapo open ended wrench I cut down. |

Ok thanks, for the procedure, now how do I pull the inner fender?

I believe there are 6 bolts around the outer edge (where the plastic inner fender meets the metal body panel). They are small. I want to say 5.5mm. There will also be two bolts at the front and rear of the inner fender. They are slightly larger, 10mm IIRC.
Basically remove all bolts that you can see, and then remove the plastic section from the inside of the wheel well. If it hasn't been removed before you might have to wrestle with it. |
