Well she let me down this morning
Had my first no start today. Batteries are from 09. Ive read that if you have them tested mist places will say they are good even though they won't give enough to start the rig?
I hooked my mustang to one battery and the wife's DD to the other. She cranked but never would fire off. I'm going to check my GPR and ohm out my GP's. Luckily I'm off work for a while. The truck was plugged in, both the block heater and my water heater. Ive found if i don't run her every day she gets hard to start if its cold. It was in the Teens and single digits and didn't run yesterday. Ive figured i had an issue. Seems like it has ran like crap on start-up even though its plugged in and not too cold. Kind of hoping the GPR is bad and the batteries are just low from trying to start her today. Oh well ill start jacking with her tomorrow

try bringing the batteries inside and let them warm up and charge them seperatly

A lot of places will try and test the batteries all hooked up but you have to unhook one of them and test them individually.

So if i pulled them took them to vatozone and had them tested I'd get an accurate assessment? I don't think i have a battery issue, but ive been wrong before

Yes. When they are hooked up in the truck and you don't unhook them to test you are essentially testing both batteries if that makes sense.

Start (no pun intended) with the usual no-start questions:
* Does the WTS light come on? * Does the tach move? * Any white smoke? Sounds like you have a GP issue, if you have to plug it in and start it every day. We started up the '95 yesterday, after sitting parked on a ridge-top for three days, 15F, 1/2 mile from the nearest 120V outlet, just gave her an extra 15 seconds or so of GP run time, and she lit right off. |

Not sure on the Rachel Yes on white smoke I plug in under 40 deg. Last few days have been around 20 or so. Last night was about 8. Typically under 40 plugged in she chuggs and sounds like a Harley for a few seconds. Get some white smoke and then it stops. Truck has 277k miles. I bought it this past summer. So i get to play where's Waldo finding her issues. So far she's been pretty solid though |

Thats a BAD GPR if it has trouble starting under 40. Ohm the plugs and test the voltage across the GPR. As said, test the batteries individually if none of the above works.

If the batteries test good you might look into the condition of battery cables and starter. I've seen many diesels over the years that start great all summer but the first sign of cold weather and it's a struggle for the old starter to turn the engine fast enough to create the heat needed to fire a diesel.
