Door cable replacement

I have that famous problem of the door handles snapping off (no, not out of anger!) so I bought 2 new cables to go from the handle to the latch. I checked and my sheet metal is just fine inside the door, but I could not for the life of me figure out how to disconnect the old cable from the latch inside the door. Anyone else have any tips?

It is a major PITA! At least the way I did it. I took the panel off and then the handle and the hinge/spring thing it's attached to. Then I took the latch itself out of the door after unhooking the lock. I have big hands and it was no fun. Maybe there is a better way to do it, but it kind of worked for me, I messed the lock up so now it won't lock, but at least the door opens.

If I knew I could reattach the lock without trouble, I wouldn't mind taking the latch out, but I'm in Reno quite often and do enjoy my stereo!

Like I said, not sure if my way is the correct way, but I did get the cable changed. Maybe if you take your sweet time and take note of everything it would go better, I didn't really pay attention to how everything went together and it ended up the lock didn't work.
