Gutting cat

What kind of gains is everyone getting from gutting the cat? I want to gut mine real bad but I want to get a 3" downpipe before I drop my exhaust. I know that a cat is mandatory in my county, which I don't mind as long as I can gut it just fine. Is everyone passing emissions when they gut it? I have stage 1 injectors, intake and a 6 position. When the chip is in 'stock' positioning, it is pretty gutless so I am sure it isn't throwing too much NoX or black smoke out the pipe. Thanks guys
