What would you check at 200k miles
Well I'm a new poster but a long time lurker. I just rolled over 200,000 miles on my 97 F250.
Every year I get laid off for a couple of months starting in a few weeks. This year I have access to a garage! So I am trying to come up with a list of what to check/upgrade on my truck. The truck: 1997 F250 4x4 7.3 5 speed Extended Cab Short Box. Upgrades: 6637 intake, 3"dp, aftermarket exhaust, stereo, speakers, and driving lights. 255/85r16 Dean MT tires. Everything else is stock. ![]() So here is what I've come up with so far in no specific order... Glow Plug Relay- Only pushing 7volts. Exhaust Back Pressure- tube and sensor. I'm hoping to clean both, but may replace if their too bad. Fuel Filter- its got 30k on it. Fuel bowl rebuild- I've got some leaking around there. I'll know more when I get the cover off and really look around. Is the rebuild fairly straight forward? Cam Position Sensor- I'm going to buy the dark blue one and toss it in the glove box. Or should I replace and put the old one in the glove box? Oil change- It'll be time. Coolant Flush- I've owned it 45k and haven't done one yet. New Coolant Cap- Read that they can go bad... for 5 bucks is it worth it? New Coolant Hoses- Upper one was a trim to fit and is too long so it is rubbing on the hood. It bugs me... Diff, Transfer Case, and Trans Fluids- All last changed at 165k. How long in between changes? Gauges- I'd like a boost and coolant temp. Isso is the way I'm leaning. Center Console- I've got the factory one but am looking at building one out of MDF and having it wrapped to match the interior. I'm thinking about the height of the arm rests and extending a little further forward. Real cup holders for a 44oz! Also maybe a 10" sub. We'll see how the money is... Dana 60- I have hopes of doing the swap but until I find a reasonable priced one, it'll have to wait. 3.73 gears- I now have 4.10's and can count on one hand the number of times I have used first this year. I'm toying with the idea of 3.73's or 3.55's to improve fuel economy while cruising. It just doesn't pencil out right now to justify it... Well that's my list so far, feel free to add or tell me I'm an idiot and shouldn't bother with any of it... Nate Last edited by bignate; 10-20-2012 at 03:32 PM. Reason: typo |

I enjoy my 4.10s also, I wouldn't trade them for 3.73s any day of the week. I'd inspect the engine wiring harness for damage. Inspect the UVCHs for any issues/loose pins. I'd also check wheel bearings, Serp belt etc

Thanks for the input. It sounds like I'm on the right track. I'll stick with the 4.10's then and keep my foot out of it on the freeway.
