Vin on motor

When I got my truck I was told the motor was replaced and I was wondering where I can locate a vin to see.

There is no VIN on the engine, since it wasn't built by Ford. There's an IH engine number on the block, somewhere down by the oil cooler; don't remember exactly where, but I remember it was a PITA to see from underneath. Then you'd have to find out by some means, an original build sheet or compnine or something, what the original engine number was, and match it against the number on the truck.
