think i need a tranny

on my way to work i was passing a semi when there was a loud bang, my driveline shot out hitting the semi. upon coasting to a stop on the middle of a bridge i went to put it in park and it grinded going in. i thought i might just lock in my hubs put it in 4wd and limp to work but my truck said no and just made a loud grinding noise. not sure how much diesel autos are to rebuild (4r100) i think. this one is a 96 f250. would it be better to just buy one of the built trannys from ATS? thanks

go with BTS (Brians Truck Shop)... are you sure a U-joint didn't just break or did the trans just stop spinning?

Did you try shifting into 4WD with the engine off? If you blew out the rear driveshaft, there would be nothing to stop the transmission output rotation in "D" with the engine running. Hence, a lot of gear clashing in the t/case, and/or grinding of the parking pawl.

You have an older version of the 4R100, called an E4OD

I can tell you this, they're not cheap to build. Where are you located ?
