Things to do While I have My Valve Cover Off?

So I think tomorrow I'm going to be pulling my covers off to check the wire harness. I am having an intermittent problem so I figure now's the time to check the wiring. When I have the covers off are there things I can clean or do to improve the performance of the engine? I plan on replacing the glow plugs because they are pretty well shot. Is there anything else?

Also are the stock gaskets rubber? The vehicle only has 135K

Thanks for any help!!

That's all there is to do under there unless you want to do injectors but that's a bigger project.

$1k+ bigger.

Just make sure that everything is in good shape, nothing bent or cracked. The gasket is rubber, and if the plugs look good reusable.

What would be bent or cracked? Is there a way to clean the injectors?

Valves, valve springs, push rods, and rocker arms.

And no, you can't clean em. Only thing to do is take them out and send em somewhere to get re-built or whatever.
