scanner?

I recently picked up a 96 350 for use at work, i've been working thru some aggravating issues the last few weeks and decieded I need to stop borrowing scanners and get my own, any suggestions? I had a Scangauge2 on my 05 6.0 but i'm not sure that will work for my 7.3, this truck does not throw hard codes, I thought my light was out until I unpluged my MAP sensor, and even then CEL went back off with sensor unpluged...anyways, I'm looking for some guidance for an affordable quality scanner. thanks
