Newbie Knock Question
Hello all,
I have searched quite a bit and haven't really found anything definitive. I just bought a 96 f250 7.3. 170,000 Runs great, starts great, I love it!! I bought it from the orginal owner and had a shop check it out. It passed all tests so I went for it. This is my first 7.3 and I noticed at idle when I'm in gear at a stoplight it has a knock that just doesn't sound right. I can hear it at low rpm's but it seems gone once I get going. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

Most likely a injector knock. Check the fuel pressure. On the driver side of the fuel bowl you'll see what looks like a valve stem that would be on you tire that's where you check fuel pressure. You can use a stick style tire gauge to do this just make sure the gauge will read to 80 psi. You want 55-65 at idle

Thanks you guys. I checked the pressure today and it was right at 65. A friend who is a mechanic but not diesel told me that everything sounded fine. I'm not so sure, anything else I should look for? The truck hauls *** and runs great, just that knock at low rpm's.
